Update regarding Haniel from WeCare

Haniel has a team of two attorneys: Noemi Ramírez and Gianfranco De Girolamo

A large community of Nicaraguans is advocating for Haniel. Additionally, Senator Rubio’s office and Senator Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona are also involved. We also count on the support of the amazing team of Matthew 25 SoCal. With a team of volunteers with did an intense advocacy at Washington, DC last week to stop Haniel’s deportation.

On 6/17/2019, Haniel was taken by ICE officials to finalize his deportation paperwork with the Nicaraguan Embassy and was told that he will be removed from La Palma Detention Center to be transferred to Louisiana within 24 hours to take his plane back to NICARAGUA.

On 06/18/2019, The Ninth Circuit Issued Stay of Deportation order for Haniel. The order was faxed to DO, SDO, DHS Washington, DC; Phoenix, AZ field office and all the people we had on our contact list.

On 06/18/2019, Haniel was picked up by ICE officers and transported to Eloy Detention Center. From Eloy he was taking the bus to the airport to board his flight to Louisiana that was scheduled to depart on 06/19/2019 to Nicaragua. Haniel was pulled from the bus that was traveling to the airport and was returned to La Palma Detention Center by 3:00 am on 06/19/2019.

On 06/19/2019, at 8:38 am, Haniel contacted his mother saying that he is fine, that he was pulled from the bus and arrived back at La Palma Detention Center at 3:00 am today.  He also stated that he was praying a lot and his prayers are being answered and he is grateful with everyone who is helping.

This is a victory that we should be proud of, because we are doing this as a team. We still have battles to overcome but we will keep on fighting until Haniel is released from detention.

Evangelical Leaders go to Tijuana/Pastores Evangélicos y otros líderes cristianos viajan a Tijuana

PRESS ADVISORY

EVENT: EVANGELICAL LEADERS GO TO TIJUANA TO SUPPORT THE CARAVAN

In Matthew 25, Jesus instructed us to welcome the divine guest in the suffering stranger.  Many of us as pastors know brothers and sisters in churches in Central America who have shared horror stories about the violent persecution of individuals and families, including small businesses who stand up against merciless extortion and young people who are told to choose between being killed and murdering others.   We expect that many of the members of the caravan have authentic asylum cases and are deeply grieved by the lack of integrity shown by political and religious leaders who judge harshly without careful investigation. We know that there are children walking with their parents who represent no threat to our country and who may be bringing a blessing. (Hebrews 13:2.)

A diverse group of pastors, professors and other Christian leaders is travelling to Mexico from November 18th-21st to support the Mexican churches in the Tijuana area as they minister to the migrants.  We are committed before our God to learn and speak the truth to our broader Christian networks.

On November 16th at 10:00am, we will pray for and bless the clergy delegation on the steps of the Payton building at Fuller Theological Seminary (the largest evangelical seminary west of the Rockies.)

WHEN: November 16th, 10am

WHERE: The front steps of the Payton Building, Fuller Theological Seminary, 135 N. Oakland Ave, Pasadena CA

Matthew 25/ Mateo 25

Greetings Friends,

Matthew 25 So Cal has had amazing events take place in the last couple of months. We had a great turnout during our August 23rd leadership retreat. Over 40 volunteer leaders came out - giving up a full day of work! We shared ways in which Matthew 25 So Cal can continue impacting our community in Southern California to stand and defend the vulnerable in our midst. Also many of you rejoiced with us as Pastor Noe Carias was released from immigration detention and reunited with his family, church and community where he belongs! Matthew 25 / Mateo 25 is made up of hundreds of Southern California evangelicals who believe that we should be speaking up to defend the vulnerable in the name of Jesus! If you believe that evangelicals should be doing more in this moment:DONATE TO THE WORK OF MATTHEW25!

Thank you for all of the prayers, donations, Christian witness at vigils, trainings and delegations, sharing posts via social media; and for the hundreds of volunteer hours that this movement has already given! In the midst of much painful news, your involvement is an inspiration to many.

MATEO 25/MATTHEW 25 SO CAL STATEMENT ON PASTOR NOE CARIAS' RELEASE

Matthew 25 So Cal is thankful for the release of Pastor Noe Carias from the Adelanto Detention Center on September 21, 2017 at 6:30 pm, where he had been detained since July 24, 2017.

Pastor Noe Carias rejoins his family, community and congregation, to continue fighting his immigration case.

The broad network of evangelical and other faith leaders who have been supporting Pastor Carias commit to continue their support of and advocacy on behalf of Noe Carias and others facing deportation.

Pastor Noe’s release was made possible by the hundreds of Matthew 25 So Cal volunteers who prayed for the family and for ICE leadership, made phone calls and sent letters to ICE to advocate for his release, visited their local legislators to share his story and ask legislators for help with his case and walked with the Carias family providing spiritual, financial and emotional support during the time Pastor Noe was in detention.

Simply put the Body of Christ came together to walk with the vulnerable and stood by them to ensure justice was done.

However, there are thousands of families in our churches and communities throughout this country who are living in fear of family separation and the evangelical church needs to stand with them until our immigration system is changed and we have effective, logical and humane policies.
